The 5000 Year Leap: A Miracle That Changed the World
By W. Cleon Skousen

This book is a great way to gain a better understanding of the roots of our nation.  The author discusses some of the problems that we as a nation have faced in prior years due to movement away from the principles of our Founders, and also explores what may be in store if we fail to follow the Constitution in the future.  Skousen examines several consequences to these actions such as excessive taxation, the mounting national debt, and judicial activism.

Another interesting viewpoint is presented when the author brings to light the fear our Founders had about government drifting too far to the left or right, both of which are out of step with their original intentions.  The Founders also felt it imperative that two questions be asked before the government went into debt:  first, is it good for the American people, and second, can it be paid off within a generation?

Overall, one can gain a deeper appreciation of the beliefs, ideals, and morals that were the backbone to the Founders’ writing of our Constitution.
